🧠 What We Do
Grounded in nursing symptom science and enriched by interdisciplinary collaboration, the Emotional Health Lab:
Investigates irritability and emotional dysregulation as early indicators of mental health decline in college students
Utilizes ecological momentary assessment (EMA) and other real-time data collection methods
Applies a biobehavioral lens to understand the physiological, behavioral, and contextual mechanisms of emotion regulation in college students
Develops and tests digital technology modalities (e.g., mobile apps, wearable sensors, AI/NLP tools) for both assessment/detection of emotional dysregulation and intervention strategies to improve coping and resilience
Incorporates mindfulness and meditation practices as potential interventions to enhance self-regulation and emotional well-being
Examines the impact of social determinants of health, especially in underserved student populations
Provides mentored research experiences for undergraduate and graduate students, preparing the next generation of nurse scientists
