Founding director
Alfred Saatchi, PhD, RN, PCCN

Babak (Alfred) Saatchi is the founding director of the Emotional Health Lab (EHL) and Assistant Professor of Nursing at San José State University. He earned his PhD in Nursing Science from University of California, Irvine, where his dissertation study examined trait and state irritability and their impact on daily functioning of college-attending young adults. With a background in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing, Dr. Saatchi’s research concentrations include irritability, emotion regulation, mental health disparities in college populations, and application of artificial intelligence (AI) in health sciences. He is dedicated to training the next generation of nurse scientists and advancing evidence-based strategies to enhance emotional well-being in young adults.

Undergraduate Research Assistants

Lan Liang

Lan Liang is an undergraduate student majoring in Software Engineering at San José State University. She is interested in the applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in creative writing and health sciences. After publishing her work on fine-tuned large language models in the National High School Journal of Science, she plans to continue exploring how emerging technologies influence health, behavior, and the well-being of future generations.
